A tough week.

It's been a pretty horrible week, with constant headaches, sweating, coughing (up yuk), infection, difficulty sleeping, blood tests, and visits to doctors and hospital. Not me though - that's Colette...

Over the past 3 years we've joked about not being fit and healthy at the same time (Colette has had enough of her own medical issues to deal with in recent years). I guess this week we were ill 'together'.

Worse thing is, it was my fault.

To help with her asthma and training, Colette uses a Powerbreathe. To clean it, it was washed in 'Milton' sterilising fluid, and Colette used it before a cross-country race last Saturday. Unfortunately, I didn't wash it out sufficiently with clean water which meant that Colette effectively inhaled some bleach-like Milton. That, in combination with running next to the M25 meant that by Saturday night Colette was in a bad way, and only now (8 days later) is starting to significantly improve. I won't make that mistake again - and I really wish I could turn the clock back.

Meanwhile, I've been relatively unscathed from the first chemo session. Had one rough flu-like day, but really nothing of any note. I tend to need to have a sleep in the afternoon, and energy isn't 100% but I can't complain too much. However, I suspect it may get worse before it gets better.

Oh, and yes, I'm still ginger!

--------------

And finally, congratulations to Flora Duffy (a.k.a. 'Dora Fluffy'!) of Bermuda, who finished a magnificent 8th in the Commonwealth Games triathlon at just 18 years of age, beating a host of established triathlon stars, including former World Champion Leanda Cave.

Colette and I have been lucky to spend the last 3 summers coaching triathlon in Bermuda with Steve Trew, and had a fantastic time with some really wonderful people, many of whom have been in contact over recent weeks. We had dinner with Flora and her proud dad Charlie last July. It's great to see how far you've come since then.

Hi John,

Think you'll be going through the next chemo session as I write this. Just to let you know that I (and Mark, from Stockley Park gym) wish you all the very best and a speedy recovery.

As you said in your earlier post, Hodgkins is one of the most treatable forms of cancer and someone I know has now fully recovered from Hodgkins themselves. It took a while and he certainly wasnt at all fit when starting the treatment, so I reckon that stands you in very good stead.

Keep us all updated on your progress

Cheers

Paul Williams
